Landslide warning: Alert level in 3 areas of Nuwara Eliya and Kandy
NBRI’s bulletin issued Sat 7 Nov, 20:00 lists 25 areas in 8 districts. It is in force until Sun 8 Nov, 20:00. No bulletin was in force just before this one, so every area on it is new.
Where the warning applies
Divisional Secretariat areas as listed in the bulletin. An area not coloured is not listed; that does not mean it is safe.
What NBRI advises
Since the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 100 mm, if the rains continue, be on alert on the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cut failures and ground subsidence, being ready to evacuate to a safe location if the need arises.
Since the rainfall within the past 24 hours has exceeded 75mm, if the rain continues, be watchful on the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence.
NBRI’s own words, as printed in the bulletin.
Main roads through the warned areas
Kilometres of each road inside areas the bulletin lists at Alert or Evacuation, on the fastest route between the two towns. NBRI rates areas, not roads.
Main roads in a fixed order, never ranked. Any other road can be checked on lankawatch.org.

What changed
No bulletin was in force just before this one, so every area on it is new.
We don’t know about road closures or damage. Be cautious on the way, especially in the hills in rain.
This page describes one bulletin and will not change. For the warning in force now, see Today. Today › NBRI issues a new bulletin each afternoon, and more often in heavy rain.
